Objectives - why should you attend?

Mediation is a structured approach to conflict handling, in which all parties try to find a solution in mutual agreement. Mediation becomes more and more important in the field of technical co-operation and intercultural co-operation. The aim of the mediation process, facilitated and moderated by a neutral mediator, is to make involved persons or groups actively look for a consensus that satisfies their justified interests and needs.

In this training program participants will enhance their capacities to

assess the positions, viewpoints and interests of parties involved
identify steps and plan strategies for conflict transformation
plan, structure and co-ordinate negotiation and mediation processes
apply negotiation and mediation skills in participatory and interactive approaches

The philosophy of the mediation approach
Negotiation and mediation styles and skills, based on the Harvard Model of Principled Negotiation
The development of mediation/negotiation plans and strategies
Facilitating mediation/negotiation sessions

Methods:

Presentations and instructions, group work, case studies from participant’s field of work, individual facilitation exercises (mediation practice), role-plays, video feedback, coaching
